Our Canopy has arrived!

We ordered a canopy from Vintage Trailer Supply.  The folks there were very nice to work with.  I wanted to order one of the "classic awning stripe" canopies and they let me special order it in a discontinued pink/white color combo.

We love it!

the top of the canopy is pink and white stripe and the underside is pink

the color of the canopy matched perfectly

So glad you got to do yours in a Shabby Chic Adorableness!
It Just Can't get any better!
I do have a quick question on your Stove/Oven?
Where did you get that little gem?

    Smiles,

  4. Thanks Christine! We live in an 1827 cape which my husband is restoring - slooooowly. So, one day, I begged him for just one space that is "done" that I could retreat to! The Pearl is my escape, so he was game for whatever color I want :)

I love your blog and your Shasta Compact! So much to explore, I need to go back and spend more time. The stove is by Force 10, model # 73351. I special ordered it at West Marine for $1261.50. It is meant for a boat, but can be used in an rv. I got the "built-in" model rather than the gimbaled one. Here is a link for the specs: http://www.force10.com/gas_built-in_3burner.html What I really like is that the back bottom is sloped to accommodate a ship's hull so it fits well with the sloping front of the Shasta compact.

  6. Love your little Pearl! Still thinking of a name for mine. It's a 63 Shasta and I've owned her for about 10 years. She's in really good shape. Yes, she is a she! ;0) Thanks for sharing!! Amy B

  7. The Pearl is charming! I wish I had bought a vintage trailer before buying our fifth wheel. They can have such personality! Kathy

  8. Your Pearl is so so cute! We call our 1972 Timberline 'The Pearl' too. She is named after my greatgrandmother Nora Pearl. Ours is in need of restoration due to dryrot that she had when we got her. Where did you get your stove??? We are going to have to rewire and repipe and may have to get a new stove. We discovered 6 mos into camping with her that there was a gas leak! My daughter and I almost passed out several times. We are so lucky to be alive. Come by my blog www.vintagecottagecamper.blogspot.com for a visit!

  9. Hey Kerrie, I've been a follower of your blog for a while. I love it! Such inspiration!!

The stove is a Force 10 (model 73351 - built in, 3 burner gas). Since we live on Cape Cod we are surrounded by Marine boat supply stores. We ordered the stove from West Marine. I wanted to restore the original stove, but truth be told, aside from the high cost of restoring it, I was afraid of a possible leak or worse, explosion. Boy, you and your daughter are really lucky!

  10. Hi Kathy, I bet that 5th wheel of yours is a lot more roomy than the Pearl though :)

I found most of the accessories at Etsy - who says you can't add a bit of charm to a 5th wheel! Happy Camping

  11. I love the color of this trailer. It's vintage looking and the awning is perfectly placed along with that comfy and charming chair. I would like to try and sit on those because they look so cozy.

  12. LOVE the awning!! Love The Pearl....the bubble flooring is TOO fun. They discontinued it (lucky you..sad for me). ; )

What is the size of the awning? I want a big one like that for my 63 Shasta. Love how it covers the entire length..wasn't sure how that would work with the wings but now I can see how it works on yours!

  13. Hi Sharon, What! they discontinued the bubble fun flooring?! That's not fair. I still see it on their website - perhaps they have a small amount left? I don't know if you looked at the post on my blog about Kath Kidston flooring, but she has some really nice ones too. Here is a link to the manufacturer: http://www.harveymaria.co.uk/floor-range/Cath-Kidston-for-harveymaria
The awning is 8' wide and I special ordered the color from Vintage Trailer Supply. Post a link if you have a blog, I'd love to see what your doing :)

  14. Hi Lisa! Oh my gosh....I am just now seeing your response. ack! Thank you so much for responding!! I will definitely look at the link, thank you for including! I did get my flooring though...I went with Marmoleum Click and I love it. Not nearly as fun as Bubbles but it will certaintly do.
I don't have a blog...I want one but just haven't had the time to set one up. If you are on FB, you can search for Brian Morrow and see lots of photos of cool trailers he is working on. You will see mine on there....Yellow and Red interior. I'm slowly getting rid of the red. Lots more to do!
    Thanks again Lisa!!!

  15. Lisa I just love the awning. I've wanted a pink and white striped one forever..I'm so sad that Vintage Trailer Supply discontinued that color..doesn't make sense with so many people redoing their trailers in Pink. Oh well...I'll just drool over yours. I actually have friend who does all my sewing projects...I know we could find the fabric and make one..

    1. Thanks! Boy, did I have a tough time finding pink and white awning stripe fabric. I was surprised that Sunbrella didn't make a pink and white stripe.

Actually, Vintage Trailer Supply didn't discontinue the pink and white stripe - the color was discontinued by the manufacturer, Weblon. I had noticed on Vintage Trailer Supply's website that they carried the other "Weblon Coastline Plus - traditional stripe" colors, so I wrote to them and asked if I could do a custom order of a different Weblon color that VTS didn't offer. They were very helpful and found out when they went to order the pink and white stripe that Weblon had discontinued it but there was enough to do my awning.

There may be more of that fabric still out there (or maybe Weblon decided not to discontinue after all). Here is a link to a place that has this color on their website: https://www.fabricsandvinyls.com/product_info.php?products_id=74{1}804&osCsid=f545qin6brllvn8lnoqrr7q9s7

Maybe you could order through them. Or, if it is still manufactured, I'm sure Vintage trailer supply would special order it. Good Luck!

  16. Lisa - do you know how many yards your new awning was? I'm up here in the frozen tundra known as Canada and since I can't work on the exterior remodel, I might as well get busy making a new awning myself for one of my little 13 ft vintage trailers as a mouse ate their way thru the regular scotty blue one I have here. I love your new pink & white striped awning and wondered how many yards I'd need to make something similar.

    1. Those mice sure to reek havoc! As for the yardage, I didn't sew my canopy. I'll polish aluminum till the cows come home, but I really stink at sewing. I ordered through Vintage Trailer Supply. But sewing one yourself will save you a lot of money! My awning is 8' wide and 8' deep, plus the scalloped edge (I think that is 4" wide)

"This Montana Life" has a great tutorial here for making your own awning: http://thismontanalife.com/make-your-own-awning-step-by-step/

By the way, mice caused so much damage to our trailer before we got her that we decided to be proactive and use a mouse repellent. "Fresh Cab" is what we've been using and it smells great (has balsam oil), its earth frienddly, and, so far, has worked great: http://www.amazon.com/Fresh-Cab-Rodent-Repellent-Pouch/dp/B0021LWPPY

      Good luck and stay warm!

  17. Lisa - thanks so much for the information and links (I'm ordering the fabric thru the link you gave a couple posts up - https://www.fabricsandvinyls.com - as they look to have what I'm after - now the begging beings to have it shipped to Canada (sometimes this is the biggest hurdle I encounter). The little mouse stayed back at the farm where I found my little trailer, but since finding her little nibbles here and there thru the canvass and thru a back wall, I've stripped all the wiring and will completely re-wiring incase the little mouse was snacking on that too between the walls... Looking forward to that step by step on how to make the awning - thanks so much for including it as I'm no sewer at all but figured I'd give it a try.

  18. Oh my gosh....your Shasta is so stinkin' cute! After our first 'RV' (rented) trip last week, we have the bug, but there's no way I'll buy an ugly beast. A cute Shasta is exactly what I need. I'm impressed that you use it with 3 kids. I have 3 kids too, and I'd love to be able to make something like this work. I love the whole thing. You've done an amazing job.

    1. Thanks Becky! Once you are bitten by the bug... there is no turning back. We get a lot of use out of our trailer. The benches turn into a king sized bed and there is also a canvas bunk that my 11 year old daughter sleeps in. When we are camping with all of us (myself, husband, 17 year old boy, 15 year old boy and 11 year old girl, we usually bring a quick set up tent for the boys to sleep in. It makes camping easier because all I do is buy groceries, pack clothes and we are off. We went to Acadia this summer, but last summer we went across country. Thanks for your very kind complements!
